Borderlands: Dead ECHOs Episode 8 Recap — "Breathe and stay present on the floor, dingus."

Published: 9/7/2026 · Updated: 9/14/2026 · Episode 8 / as of 2026-09

The bottle episode. Everything from takeoff to landing on the Eden-6 transport the pair boarded at the end of Episode 7 happens here, and almost nothing else. No chase, no fight. Instead: Watts, who has never flown before, panicking continuously, and reaching for three separate in-universe ECHOcasts to distract himself. It’s the most digressive episode of the series so far — and then the last thirty seconds move the plot.

The official cast list is unusable for this episode — the CAST block in Gearbox’s podcast feed and YouTube description for Episode 8 is a verbatim copy of the Episode 7 cast list (Rakk Chowder Vendor, Shrimp Blimp CEO, Burrito Vendor and the rest of the spaceport market roles from the previous episode). So every new name below is a provisional spelling taken from audio, and is marked as such.

A-plot: Pandoran Transport Flight 504

B-plot: the panic, and “I’m 34”

C-plot: the nosy passenger (the episode’s running gag)

The woman seated next to Watts spends the entire flight destroying him.

D-plot: in-universe ECHOcast #1 — “Triage Garage”

Watts asks for something “plain, boring and mechanical”, so Junie picks the auto-repair call-in show — which turns out to be wall-to-wall double entendre.

E-plot: in-universe ECHOcast #2 — “Tales from the Murderlands”

Junie’s pitch is immersion therapy: “A good way to overcome a fear is to immerse yourself in it.” She also notes it was “made by ladies, so it’s pretty plugged into the female perspective, which, you know, can’t hurt.

F-plot: Corn on the Cob digs through the plane

G-plot: in-universe ECHOcast #3 — “The Feminist Zone with Joey and Duck”

Watts puts this one on himself, to prove he isn’t “some dude-bro troglodyte that isn’t tuned into lady stuff.” Note that the Episode 7 trailer implied Mr. Torgue would appear on Tales from the Murderlandshe’s actually a guest on this show instead (rendered Mr. Tor in audio; spelling unconfirmed).

H-plot: before landing — hold my hand / don’t

I-plot: Aaron Baron’s one favor (paying off Episodes 3 and 4)

With the landing gear on fire, the Postmaster gets a collect ECHO call.

J-plot: Eden-6 — the Jakobs family home

This is where Junie’s family finally gets specific.

K-plot: the last thirty seconds — Amadeus gets the trail back

Cut to security screening at the Pandora spaceport, where the agent from Episode 7 is now the one being questioned.

Since Episode 6 the shape of the chase has been “Proctor called off the search, Amadeus kept going alone.” This is the scene where he finally gets pointed the right way.

FAQ

What happens in Episode 8?

Almost the entire episode takes place on the transport to Eden-6. Watts panics his way through the flight, and the distractions he reaches for are three in-universe ECHOcasts played in full — an auto-repair call-in show called Triage Garage, a true-crime show called Tales from the Murderlands, and a talk show called The Feminist Zone with Joey and Duck. Plot-wise, Aaron Baron calls collect from casino jail to promise the Postmaster one favor, and we learn Crisp took a beating in the same facility. The pair land on Eden-6 and reach the Jakobs family home. Then, in the last thirty seconds, Liquidator Amadeus interrogates a Pandora spaceport agent, learns the pair flew to Eden-6, and kills him.

Do Amadeus or Proctor appear in Episode 8?

Proctor is mentioned but never appears. Amadeus shows up for exactly one scene, the last one. He questions the Pandora customs agent, gets told that 'the only transport leaving Pandora yesterday was headed to Eden-6', and kills him. Since Episode 6 the setup has been that Proctor called off the search while Amadeus kept going on his own — this is the scene where he finally gets pointed the right way.

Does this episode connect to the games?

Yes. The host of the in-universe show Triage Garage is a Southern-accented lady mechanic named Ellie who signs off with 'Catch a ride' — almost certainly the Ellie from the games (the official cast list for Episode 8 can't be used to confirm it, for reasons explained in the article). The true-crime segment is built on the Helios space station crashing into Pandora, there's a Moxxi's casino holding facility, and the pair arrive at the Jakobs family estate in the swamps of Eden-6. The next-time trailer features Tannis herself.
