Rafa is one of the four Vault Hunters in the base game, running the Exo-Soldier class. 2K’s own material describes a former soldier raised in microgravity whose body was modified to interface with a Tediore exo-suit, now on the run and fighting with the hardware built into the Deadframe.

The thing that shapes every Rafa build is the Overdrive trait. Using an action skill buffs you, and — importantly — the Overdrive timer does not tick down while an action skill is deployed. Keeping a skill running is the same thing as keeping the buff running, so all three trees converge on duration, cooldown and uptime.

The three action skills

SkillWhat it does
Peacebreaker CannonsA shoulder-mounted turret that automatically fires kinetic damage at what is in front of you. Ending it early refunds part of the cooldown
APOPHIS LanceAn arm cannon firing piercing shock rounds at the cost of handling. Charging increases the damage
Arc-KnivesTwin melee blades. While deployed you bank incoming damage and burn yourself, and melee gains a fire bonus

What only Rafa does — capstones replace the weapon itself

Where other Vault Hunters get capstones that add damage or add a slot, Rafa’s capstones swap out what the action skill actually is.

Inside Remote Agent alone there is a capstone that turns Peacebreaker Cannons into a shotgun (Double-O Autoshot) and one that turns it into a beam (Beam Team). People Person has one that converts APOPHIS Lance into a taser. We confirmed the node names and tiers in-game on 2026-08-01.

Since you only ever equip one capstone, building Rafa is really choosing which weapon your action skill becomes. It is a choice of behaviour, not a stack of multipliers — and that is the structural thing that separates Rafa from the rest of the roster.

We have also not found any node that gives Rafa extra augment slots. Rafa runs the default one augment plus one capstone.

A node that stays locked even when the maths works

Tier unlocks are normally decided purely by how many points sit in a section — we verified all of those numbers here. Rafa has at least one node that does not follow that alone.

This is the failure mode that bites when you plan a build on paper: the point totals add up, and the node still will not take. After finding it on Rafa we found two more of the same shape on Harlowe, so treat it as a mechanic rather than a bug.

What we confirmed in-game

Everything below was read in game. Numbers sourced from other guides are deliberately not included.

Confirmed effect values in the Remote Agent tree

NodeConfirmed effect
Sitiar (Common T1, max 5)Gun damage +5% per rank (+25% at max)
Deft Hands (Common T1, max 5)Fire rate +4% for Rafa and for Peacebreaker Cannons
Shield Barriest (Common T1, max 5)While in Overdrive, shield recharge rate +8% per rank and delay reduced +8% per rank
Juerga (Common T2, max 5)Critical hits extend action skill duration +3% per rank, on a 4-second internal cooldown
Instinct (Common T2, augment, 0 pt)Cannons critical chance +20%. Extra input while deployed gives +20% crit chance and crit damage per stack (and +20% per stack to how fast duration drains). Kills restore 10% duration (drain rate +3% per kill). 8-second duration, 10 stacks max
El Valiente (Common T3, max 3)All damage up, scaling with shield fill — double bonus at full shield
Venganza (Common T3, max 1)Breaking a shield from full returns one free grenade
Soltado (B3 T3, max 1)Kill skill. Raises all Overdrive bonuses

Tree coverage

The entire Remote Agent tree — common section plus all three sub-branches — had its node layout confirmed on 2026-08-01. One correction followed: Rolling Stone moved from T1 to T2 on 2026-08-05.

Class mod

The Instigator class mod’s dedicated bonus measured at +41% action skill duration, which does not match the +45% figure circulating in written guides.

FAQ

Can Rafa get extra augment slots?

Not as far as we can tell. We have not found any node that changes Rafa's slot count, so Rafa runs the default one augment plus one capstone. Only C4SH (Devil's Tines) and Vex (Dark Pact) change that default.

Can I run more than one capstone?

No. Rafa's capstones replace the action skill's weapon behaviour outright, so they are effectively an exclusive choice. Switching your action skill to a different colour tree switches you to that tree's capstone and augment slot.

Why is a skill still locked when I have enough points?

Rafa has at least one node with a second requirement on top of the tier cost. Inspirado did not unlock from branch points alone — it needed 1 point in Concentrated Build Up in the same branch (confirmed in-game 2026-08-05).
