C4SH is the fifth Vault Hunter, added in Story Pack 1: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned, running the Rogue class. 2K’s material describes a CasinoBot given a second life, carrying a magical deck won in a high-stakes bet that grants him unholy favour — a robot that won by statistics until it met genuine unpredictability.

The three action skills

SkillWhat it does
Cross-FireStows your weapon for dual revolvers that auto-fire at what you aim at
Sleight of HandDraws and throws a card in each hand, with the effect depending on what you drew
CleromancyRolls bone dice and summons a totem based on the result. Doubles produce an upgraded version

What only C4SH does — no capstones at all

The Borderlands 4 default is one augment plus one capstone per action skill. C4SH breaks that at the root: he is the only Vault Hunter in the game with no capstones.

Instead, each colour tree carries a passive at common T3 called Devil’s Tines, and each point spent in it adds one augment slot.

PositionCommon T3 of each colour tree (one in red, blue and green)
Effect+1 augment slot per instance taken
Node cost1 point
Cost per tree10 points to reach common T3 + 1 in the node = 11 points
Cost for four slots3 trees × 11 = 33 points minimum
CeilingDefault 1 slot + 3 = 4 slots

Position and cost confirmed in-game on 2026-07-20. Because colour trees never pool their points, the real cost is 10 points into the common section of all three trees — that is where the 33 comes from.

The trade-off

This part is arithmetic, so we can state it cleanly. Level 60 gives 59 skill points.

ChoiceSlot costLeft for your main tree
4 slots (all three trees)3326
3 slots (two trees)2237
2 slots (one tree)1148

Four slots looks impressive and leaves only 26 points for your main tree. Since C4SH has no capstone to win that damage back at the end of a branch, every extra slot directly thins out your damage passives. Three slots with 37 points in the main tree is the more realistic compromise.

There is no shortcut either: class mod bonus skill points do not unlock Devil’s Tines, because only points you actually spent count toward tier unlocks (confirmed 2026-07-21).

The unlock rules are fully verified here, and there is a dedicated article on the augment slots.

From official patch notes

Where we lack in-game measurements, official patch notes are still primary sources.

Across all 44 patch notes we checked, Devil’s Tines and Windfall / Fortune have no recorded numeric changes (as of 2026-08-15).

What we have not confirmed

C4SH is, honestly, the thinnest of the five on verified data, so here is the full picture.

FAQ

How many points does 4 augment slots cost?

33 at minimum. Devil's Tines sits at common T3 of each colour tree, so one tree costs 10 points to reach T3 plus 1 point in the node itself = 11. Three trees makes 33 (confirmed in-game 2026-07-20).

What do I give up for the fourth slot?

Of the 59 points at level 60, 33 go to slots, leaving 26 for your main tree. Settling for three slots (two trees, 22 points) leaves 37, and two slots leaves 48.

Does C4SH have capstones?

No. C4SH is the only Vault Hunter with no capstones at all — that slot in the design is replaced by augment expansion.
